My Typical Daily Path
Gidden's theory that everyone has a regular path in their daily lives is absolutely true. This year I have noticed it more and more because of the strict schedule I have made for myself throughout the week. I have always believed that everything happens for a reason and I think that spatial patterns relate and influence this immensely.
My everyday spatial pattern is driving down Broad Street in the mornings for my classes and on the way back I like to drive up Monument Road in Richmond. There is always lots of traffic on Broad street considering it is the Main Street in the city of Richmond. Therefore, it is always lively, people are out walking, running their own errands or going to work. That is my main route everyday especially because I live off campus so if id like to go to classes or see any of my friends I must take this path.
This past month or so there have been many things that have constrained me from my every day path...there has been construction on Broad Street due to newly needed paved roads. This has caused me to take new routes to and from classes and friends, ones I have never taken before. As much as I dislike having to change my route it helps separate my days of the week so that they don't all blend like they usually would. It is crazy to think that we really do all have our usual daily paths and when something disrupts it many things can change.
