Japan Election & China Election

I will be exploring and comparing the election in Japan in 2021 and Chinas last election in 2021. Japan is a core country and China is a semi-periphery country. The Japanese election is a general election which means "Voting took place in all constituencies in order to elect members to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Nation Diet." This election also decided who the next prime minister would be and cabinet. There is an option to re-appoint the prime minster but in this 2021 election that did not happen. The new leader that was appointed was Fumio Kishida. This past year was monumental for Japans election because it was "the first general election of the Reiwa era." The meaning behind this era is order and harmony. Japan has made 247 era names to honor their emperors.

China on the other hand has a different way of electing their officials. Xi Jinping is the leader of China today and has been since 2012. China elects their leaders through the National Peoples Congress, which is the highest body of government,"which also has the power to remove the president and other state officers from office. Elections and removals are decided by majority vote." Every five years China will hold their election at the Communist Party of China but as you can see leadership hasn't changed in a while. "The party has 2,300 delegates - although only 2,287 have been elected to attend." It seems as though Chinas government is very closed off to the rest of China. Considering there are 1.3 billion Chinese citizens that barely have any say who their leader is.
