Military Bases (GEO230) Grace Knicely

I decided to explore the military bases in the state California because I noticed that there are many bases in this state. There are 32 bases which includes every single military branch which is crazy! This makes perfect sense as too why there are so many because California borders the Pacific Ocean which means we need all the defense we can get on the western side of the U.S. if anything were to happen with other countries. When relating this to hegemony cycles we are straying from economic activity and focusing on military activity instead. The U.S. military is where so much of tax paying money goes to which makes them increase weaponry and bases. The United States has always been a powerful and strong country. After we took California in the 1800's from New Mexico all the U.S. did was rise to power and continue to get stronger as a nation. History is so important but the hegemony cycle states that, "the United States is identified as resorting to a militaristic foreign policy in the face of increasing resistance to its authority abroad." We use the U.S. military so they we appear strong which is not the goal of the cycle. The focus needs to be more on the people and economy.

 Borders change all of the time. This can happen from war, treaties over land, violence or peaceful trading.  The states borders I have chosen to research is China. This country has been the worlds largest exporter since the beginning of 2009, so there has been lots of change with their borders over the years.
