Military Bases (GEO230) Grace Knicely

Image
I decided to explore the military bases in the state California because I noticed that there are many bases in this state. There are 32 bases which includes every single military branch which is crazy! This makes perfect sense as too why there are so many because California borders the Pacific Ocean which means we need all the defense we can get on the western side of the U.S. if anything were to happen with other countries. When relating this to hegemony cycles we are straying from economic activity and focusing on military activity instead. The U.S. military is where so much of tax paying money goes to which makes them increase weaponry and bases. The United States has always been a powerful and strong country. After we took California in the 1800's from New Mexico all the U.S. did was rise to power and continue to get stronger as a nation. History is so important but the hege...

Feminist Geopolitics (GEO 230) Grace Knicely

I will be exploring how feminist geopolitical women would view how the UK decided to deliver NATO supplies and conducting patrols with JEF partners for Ukraine. It is very cool to hear that countries are coming together and giving what they can in efforts to helping Ukraine due to the invasion by Russia. The Uk and Denmark are working with each other on the battleground while  Sweden, Latvia and Lithuania are delivering supplies like ships, fighter jets and military gear. A geopolitical feminist would view this as intimate politics because although Ukraine is in need, war and violence makes a huge impact on the earth we live on and people around us. "Violence is a social relation that is embedded in, and runs through, multiple spaces in a myriad of directions." I believe in this case the focus is rather on humans security rather than state which is what a Feminist would want. The role of violence though in this case with ...

How Gas Prices are Affecting the World (Blog #1) - Grace Knicely

Image
Monday March 28th The textbook talks about the three different scales, which are local, national and global. Gas and oil prices have skyrocketed locally and globally around the world which has caused an enormous issue on a few different scales. This started happening during the pandemic because there was a halt in drilling wells and then unfortunately continued to get worst. This is affecting many people especially lower wage earners. The economy is getting hit hard globally because people are spending less on things they would have regularly. Both scales are affected because there are many different issues that are concerning this and revolved around the increase in prices around the world. Not only has there evidently been a decrease in consumer spending but also global warming has been harmed as well. Big businesses and companies internationally are seeing change, but also everyday citizens are as well and that is why this problem is different across the local and global scales....
